Machiavelli, Niccolo was born on May 3, 1469 to the lawyer Bernando Machiavelli and Bartolomea de’ Neli. Machiavelli grew up in Florence of Lorenzo de’ Medici and received a humanist education in the Latin authors. Machiavelli’s father’s friendship with the chancellor Bartolomea Scala may have provided the young Niccolo with the sources he needed to become great, like the cities humanistic and literacy circles. Also very little is known about Niccolo life before 1498, especially the dramatic events of the French invasion of Italy and Tuscany. But the few facts that are known about Machiavelli’s early life includes his friendship with Lorenzo de’ Medici youngest son, Giuliano, to whom he addressed some poetry and in whom he would later invest many hopes in; and his transcription of a humanist edition of Lucretiu’s De rerum nature. This paper is devoted to the issue of slavery, slave trade and the Middle Passage through which the slave trade was carried. It is also supposed to contemplate the question of depiction of the slave trade in various sources such as primary sources, documentaries and popular films.
It is important to mention that slave trade of its own accord is an absolutely inhuman deed and it is contradictory to all moral principles. During the Republics first century, American law held that all white people had equal rights to the benefits of American civilization. Some distinctions were made between citizens and non-citizens: only citizens had the right to vote, and only a native-born citizen could become president, for example. For white people, however, legal access to American citizenship was virtually unrestricted. Potential immigrants might not be able to afford the passage to the United States, but once they were here, the law (if not necessarily the residents) welcomed them; naturalization was theirs for the asking. The law did not intrude on people’s rights to travel, to change their residence or to decide their own destiny. An important consequence was that whites who arrived on American territory were automatically subject to the protection of the American Constitution and laws. (more…)

The Mormons are perhaps the only American ethnic group whose principal migration began as an effort to move mil of the United States. Moreover, this migration of the main body of Mormons from western Illinois to the Rocky Mountains in the late 1840s imprinted upon the group a self-consciousness gained through prior experience in the Midwest. The Mormons have been influenced subsequently by ritual tales of privation, wandering, and delivery under God’s hand, precisely as the Jews have been influenced by their stories of the Exodus. A significant consequence of this tradition has been the development of an enduring sense of territoriality that has given a distinctive cast to Mormon group consciousness. It differentiates the Mormons from mem­bers of other sects and lends support to the judgment of the sociologist Thom­as F. O’Dea that the Mormons “represent the clearest example to be found in our national history of the evolution of a native and indigenously developed ethnic minority.”

This paper is supposed to contemplate and dispute the issue of crusades which are considered to be holy wars against infidel. Were the crusades which took place in the period between 1095 and 1272 really motivated by merely religious aims? There are a lot of doubts in this respect nowadays.
Before we start considering the crusades and particularly their goals, it is necessary to define what the holy war is. Thus we will be able to make a conclusion as for the essence of crusades.
